Mr. Julius M. "Jim" Ebert, Jr., age 79, resident of Duck River, TN, former Columbia resident, passed away on Saturday morning at Hickman County Hospital in Centerville.
Jim was born August 22, 1931 in Fredericksburg, Texas, the son of the late Julius M. Ebert, Sr., and Estella Burrer Ebert.Jim was the husband of Jeanie Poeppelman Ebert of Duck River. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 30 years of service. Jim worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired from the USDA in 1995 and was a part-time farmer. Jim was a communicant of St. Catherine Catholic Church where he was choir director for 24 years.Jim and his sons established the Knights of Columbus in Columbia in 1979.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Jeanie include his children: Mike Jackie Ebert of Ashland, OH, Mark Ebert of Duck River and Joyce Fred Reifsteck III of Athens, GA; two grandsons, Fred Reifsteck IV of Athens, GA and Paul Samantha Ebert of Birmingham, AL, one great-grandson, Samuel Ebert of Birmingham, AL.
A funeral mass for Mr. Ebert will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Father Patrick Connor, Father Davis Chackeleckel and Father Kevin Dowling officiating. Entombment will follow in the Polk Memorial Mausoleum.
The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 4:00- 8:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Columbia Council 7447 of the Knights of Columbus, 308 Hemingway Drive, Columbia, TN 38401.
Pallbearers will be the fourth degree Knights of Columbus.
