Josephine “Jo” Lyles Waggoner, age 90, passed away just two days after her 90th birthday on Sunday, June 6th, 2021, in Columbia, Tennessee. Josephine was born on June 4th, 1931, in Cross Bridges, Tennessee to the late Edward Arnold Lyles, Sr. and Edna Hines Lyles.
Josephine earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing and dedicated herself to helping others for 42 years. Josephine held a position as a Nursing Supervisor at St. Thomas Hospital until her retirement. Josephine had such a caring heart; she lovingly took care of her family throughout the years and made many memories. She had an eye for adventure and would love to travel the world. Josephine also had a soft spot for animals, especially cats and dogs. These little furry animals would always find a way into her heart and into her home.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 10th, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. A funeral service for Ms. Josephine will begin at 2:00 PM, with a burial to follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Josephine is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Waggoner, and parents, and a brother-in-law: John Myatt.
Josephine is survived by her brother: Edward A. Lyles, Jr. (Jean); sister: Carolyn L. Myatt; nephew: Jason Lyles (Rachel); niece: Jennifer Gay Williams (Jimi); great nieces and nephews: Christian Williams, Jaycie Lyles, Elijah Williams, and Rhett Lyles.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in honor of Ms. Josephine to the Maury County Humane Society.
