Joe Mason was born June 6, 1935 in Nashville and raised in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee and New Port Richey, Florida. He attended Vanderbilt University and then Montana State College when his parents moved to Butte, Montana. Joe served in the Army as a draftsman and designed his parents’ home where he lived much of his life.
Joe loved animals and over his life had horses, dogs and most recently, his beloved feline companion, Buddy.
Joe taught high school and coached in Florida and Tennessee before becoming a full-time minister. The ministry was his true passion, and he was always ministering to others – friends, family and even strangers he would meet. Gardening was also important to Joe. He grew a wide variety of vegetables and enjoyed sharing his crop with others. Joe traveled to Israel 5 times and visited Greece and Korea.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents – William (Bill) and Claudine (Huck) Mason. Survivors include his brother, Bill (Cheryl) Mason; niece, Maria (Stuart) Harvey; nephew, Scott (Billy) Mason; grandnephews Andrew and Jason Harvey.
Joe was a faithful member of Trinity Family Church. Memorial Service officiated by Reverend Don Richey will be held on Friday, November 10 at 10:00, at Trinity Family Church 2628 Leah Circle, Columbia.
