Jon Ronald “Ronnie” Burroughs, age 73, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.
Ronnie was born on January 17, 1943 to J. E. Burroughs and Hazel Norton Burroughs in Columbia, Tennessee. Ronnie was known in the community for his love of working on cars. At one time, he was called the “V.W. Man” because he was repairing so many Volkswagens. He was also the head mechanic at Union Carbide and retired from there after thirty years of service. His family recalls that he was “the hardest working man you ever met.” Ronnie enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was always willing to help anyone no matter who they were.
Ronnie is survived by his wife: Sarah Burroughs; children: Kendall Burroughs, Keith (Kim) Burroughs, Tommy (Lorinda) Adams and Judy Adams (Richard) Pettus; sister: Phyllis Burroughs (Bill) Gregg; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: J. E. Burroughs and Hazel Norton Burroughs; son: Jerry “Bugs” Green and grandson: Brandon Burroughs.
The family will visit with friends on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. A graveside service and inurnment will be held at Spencer Hill Cemetery at a later date.
