Mr. Johnnie B. Oliver, 80, a resident of Riverside Drive in Columbia, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Oliver will be conducted Thursday, June 17, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Elmer Lusk, Joe Macer, Brad Goodwin and Joseph Wells officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Giles County native was the son of the late Morgan and Alice Foster Oliver. He was the husband of Eunice Crigger Oliver. He retired from the Columbia Fire Department of thirty five years. He was with the Maury Rural Fire and Rescue and served as Assistant Director. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 169th Infantry Division and in Germany as a messenger for different platoons. He was a member of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 and VFW Post # 4969. He was an avid gardner and loved helping people. He was a member of the East Side Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Belinda Larry Goodwin of Manchester, TN, and Sandra Kay Freddie Rich of Columbia, TN; ten grandchildren, Michael Oliver and Crysta Oliver, both of Reno, NV, Richard Kelley Goodwin and Brad Jennifer Goodwin, both of Manchester, TN, Angie Lee Martin of Tullahoma, TN, Ricky Jamie Rich of Oklahoma City, OK, Melanie Joey Estes, Audrey Rich, Stephanie Pilkinton and Hilary Jones, all of Columbia, TN; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, John William Oliver and a daughter, Jane Oliver Jones; a sister, Lucille Oliver and five brothers, J.P., Bill, James, Cleve and Willard Oliver.

Pallbearers will be the Columbia Fire Department Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Maury Fire and Rescue, elders and deacons of Eastside Church of Christ, members and former members of the Columbia Fire Department, members of Maury 911 and Maury Regional EMS.
