John L. Petro, Jr.

June 29, 1919 — January 10, 2004

Mr. John L .?Johnie? Petro, Jr., 84, a resident of Rosewood Nursing Home in Columbia, died Saturday, January 10, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital.

A memorial service for Mr. Petro will be conducted Thursday, January 15, 2004 at 3:30 P.M. in Faith Hall of First Baptist Church in Columbia with Brother Billy Kimbrough officiating. Williams Columbia Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Graveside services will be conducted at a later date at the Elmridge Cemetery in Muncie, Indiana.

The Muncie, Indiana native was the son of the late John and Ester Johnson Petro. He was the husband of Rachel Oren Petro of Columbia. He was a life-long resident of Mincie, Indiana where he owned and operated Petro?s Barber Shop. He filled his time with being a barber and playing music. He was well-known for his musical talent for being able to play anything that had strings on it. Another talent of his was restoring antiques and fixing clocks. Many of those antiques and clocks made Petro?s Barber shop a unique place to visit as it was filled with antiques, many of them clocks, and a variety of toys..

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John L. Petro of Indianapolis, IN; a special daughter-in-law, Elaine Petro of Noblesville, IN; a daughter, Patty Sulsona of Los Angeles, CA; two step sons, Don Dava Tobey of Dunnellon, FL and Jeff Vonda Tobey of New Albany, OH; a step daughter, Michal Ann Alan Scudder of Columbia, TN; a sister, Martha Ellen Lawson of Brenham, TX; his grandchildren, Shannon Jeff Daniels of Noblesville, IN, Lisa Michael Grossman of Boyds, MD, Maria Sulsona of Los Angeles, CA, Lito Sulsona of Los Angeles, CA, Carolyn Tobey of Columbia, SC, Sarah John Rufenocht of Ft. Knox, KY, David Jennifer Tobey of Round Rock, TX, Emily Tobey of Georgetown, TX, Laura Jimmy Wheeler of Nashville, TN, Joe Luttman of Nashville, TN, and David Tobey of New Albany, OH; eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association: Mid South Chapter, Middle Tennessee Regional Office, 4004 Hillsboro Pike, Suite 219 B, Nashville, Tennessee 37215. The family requests all proceeds be used in the Maury County District.
