John William Jones, age 89 passed this life on July 17, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center with family present. He was born in Phil Campbell, Alabama on November 15, 1922 to the late John Henry and Dollie Weeks Jones.
He was preceded in death by his loving son: John Douglas Jones; brothers: Arthur, Oscar, Elbert, Leo, Junior, Basil, James; and his sister: Bertha.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Mary Robinson Jones; daughters: Connie Cathey Richard, Gail McCain Ray; daughter-in-law: Vickie Jones; grandchildren: Andrea Peyton Jimmy, Christy Langford John, Mary Hay Roger, Ben Jones Jill, Brett Jones Janean; great grandchildren: Katie and Jonathan Peyton, Lauren, Caroline, Sara Langford, Marissa and Maggie Hay, Jax and Kiptin Jones, Kennedy and soon to arrive Claire Jones; sisters: Elsie Clanton, Maggie Green and brothers: Pruitt Christine and Sunior Mavis Jones.
Mr. Jones was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Army, entering the service in 1943. He was a corporal with the 127th General Hospital serving in Taunton England, Rennes and Nancy, France hospitals until the war ended.
He was a member of the Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church and a 50 year Mason, being a member of the Mimosa Lodge # 542 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.
Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home at 819 N. Main Street in Mt. Pleasant. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens with graveside services being held in The Arbors. Military honors will be provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Peyton, Ben Jones, Brett Jones, John Langford, Roger Hay and Ray McCain. Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Cathey, Jimmy Peyton and Ricky Massey.
Our many thanks go to Dr. Ben Gardner, nurses and staff of Maury Regional Medical Center, hospice, Pastor Donna Higginbotham and the members of Mt. Nebo UMC, neighbors and friends of the Sawdust community for their many kindnesses.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church.
