John William Rush, Sr. better known as “J.W.” or “Shorty” age 86, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021 at NHC Maury Regional in Columbia, Tennessee. Shorty was born October 19, 1934 in Spring Hill, TN to the late John Mansfield Rush and Freda Aileen Dooley Rush.
J.W. was a driven and kind-hearted person. He was always a hard-working man. He spent 39 years working with Western Electric which later became AT&T as an installer. Shorty was a member of the Communication Workers of America. He had the good fortune of having some of the finest coworkers a man could have. He kept in touch with many of them throughout the years until his health declined. When Shorty wasn’t working he was spending quality time with his wife Norma Jean of 49 years and their family and friends. He adored his granddaughters and daughters-in-law more than words could express. Shorty loved the Lord, his family, neighbors and friends and he too is loved in return. He will be dearly missed.
Shorty is survived by his sons: John W. Rush, Jr. (Lisa) of Lebanon, TN and Randy Rush (Angie) of Watertown, Wisconsin; granddaughters: Olivia Rush of Lebanon, TN and Jessica Rush of Watertown, Wisconsin; sister: Dorothy Burks; neighbors and close friends: Doris Jackson (the late Commie Jackson), Dorina Jackson, Emi Jackson, Wade and Katie Matheny, Danny Gipson and Clara Wells, Shelia Johnson.
The family will visit with friends Monday, October 18, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, TN. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia, Tennessee.
