John L. Culberson

March 23, 1927 — May 6, 2009

Mr. John L. Culberson, age 82, a resident of Old TVA Road, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Culberson will be conducted Friday, May 8, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with Rev. Murray Tommy Culberson officiating. Burial will follow in the Santa Fe Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

John was born on March 23, 1927 in Maury County, TN to the late John Samuel and Johnnie Bell Painter Culberson. He was married to Clara Lou Kelley who preceded him in death. He was a retired maintenance and heavy equipment mechanic for the Maury County Highway Department. Mr. Culberson's coffee buddies elected him as mayor of Kathy's Restaurants. He was a longtime member of the Santa Fe quartet and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Santa Fe. He loved working on family genealogy and he was a member of the North Side Baptist Church.

He is survived by a daughter: Jonell Jerry Sweeney of Columbia; grandchildren: Jerusha Ben Pitts, Jared Sweeney Jessica Totty fiance' of Columbia, great-granddaughter: Jaye Clara Pitts of Columbia; two special nephews: Kenneth Evelyn Culberson of Alabama and Ernie Judy Culberson of Columbia; many other beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Lela Hood and Eva Warren; three brothers: Eugene Culberson, Murray Culberson and Ernest Culberson.

Pallbearers will be Arch Warren, Roy Warren, L. G. White, Corey Culberson, Michael Beard and Ben Pitts. Honorary pallbearers will be Kathy's breakfast crew and all employees of Kathy's Restaurant.
