Mr. John L. Boswell, Sr., age 69, a resident of Lynnville, passed away on Thursday, October 29, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mr. Boswell will be conducted Monday at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Lynnwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.
The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
The Lawrence County native was born December 25, 1939, the son of the late Hobert McKinley Boswell and Rosa Buie Boswell. He was the husband of Jocie Hendrix Boswell of Lynnville. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked for Monsanto Chemical Co. for 5 years and later for Asplundh Tree Co. John was a member of ASCAP song writer's guild, loved playing guitar and singing. He wrote "The Food Stamp Song" which was a hit both in American and overseas. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children: Debra Himes and John L. Boswell, Jr., both of Lynnville; four sisters: Martha Thurman of Mt. Pleasant, Rachel Ketchum and Ina Carrol Black, both of Maury Co., and Laverne Fulmer of Columbia. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Calvin Boswell, William Boswell and Ernest Boswell and one sister Lucy Brown.
