John David Kelly, age 75, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at his residence.
John David was born on September 15, 1941 in Limestone County, Alabama to Ernest and Alma Tosh Kelly. He was married to Shirley Jean Kelly for many years and they built a wonderful loving life together with several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His grandchildren became the light of his life, once they came along. He loved taking the kids to ball games and wrestling in Columbia. He also enjoyed taking the family on trips.
He was a member of the United States Army, having retired as a First Sargent after serving honorably for 24 years, including Vietnam tours. He was proud to serve his country and had been awarded two purple hearts.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Kelly is survived by his children: Steve Wade Kelly, John D. Kelly, II, Teresa (Mike) Bowser and Pam (Ryan) Spears; grandchildren: Candace Andrews, Zackary Daniels, Haley Ragsdale, Jayden Ragsdale, Cristan Brassfield, Sarah Kelly, Serenity Bowser, Alexis Kelly, Kayla Kelly, Mackenzie Spears, several great-grandchildren; siblings: Faye Workman, Dottie Crowe and Nicky Kelly. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest and Alma Tosh Kelly; brother: Wayne Kelly and sister: Doris Kelly.
Funeral services for Mr. Kelly will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee with Danny Douglas officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens with full military honors being provided by the United States Army Honor Guard. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.
Johnny Daniels, Zack Daniels, Gene Brassfield, Ryan Spears, Michael Compton and Tommy Andrews will serve as pallbearers.
