John W. Johnson Sr.

John W. Johnson, Sr., age 84, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at his residence.

John was born on December 11, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee to Harrison and Verna B. Johnson. He was married to Ida Mae Pierce Johnson for over 50 years until her passing away on June 15, 2008. John was a hard-working man who always looked on the bright side of things. He was strong and independent, taking care of his wife and family all of his life. Diligent and dedicated, he worked on the Rummage Farm on Tindell Lane for forty-seven years. He was a member of Mt. Zion Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant.

Survivors include his sons: John W. (Jennifer) Johnson, Jr. of Lynnville and Carl (Sherry) Johnson of Columbia; grandchildren: Alicia Thompson, Daniel Johnson, Milly Johnson and Libby Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents: Harrison and Verna Johnson; loving wife: Ida Johnson; and all of his siblings.

Funeral services for John will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, June 28 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert Rummage, Randy Rummage, Paul Gibson, Randall Rummage, Teddy Fralix and Ronnie Roberts will serve as pallbearers.
