John “Johnny” Neil Helton Jr., age 48 of Mount Pleasant, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Johnny was born on March 10, 1968 to John Neil Helton Sr. and Judy Ingram Helton in Columbia, Tennessee. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. Johnny never met a stranger and any child that needed a father figure he would take them in as his own. His family described him as a strong willed man and was the rock of the family. Johnny enjoyed riding horses especially his horse, Felicia Sims. When he and his family would go on horse rides he made sure everyone ate well. He also loved to fish. Not only could he cook them, he could catch them!
Johnny is survived by his wife, Tressa Helton; Daughters, Kristen Helton and Marie Rosson; Grandchild, Josh Armstrong; Step- Grandchildren, Haley Armstrong and Kaitlyn Armstrong; Parents, John and Judy Helton; Sister, Melissa Potts; Grandparent, Mary Brown; Uncles, James Richard Brown and Darrel Brown; Aunt, Tina Brown; Nephews, Jonathon (Christie) Potts, Anthony Potts, James Thomas (Jackie) Potts, Joseph Bowman, and Mitchell Oakley; Nieces, Samatha Bowman, Sony/Justin Jackson, and Harley Chandler; and several great nieces and nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by Grandparents, J.M. and Louise Helton and Charlie Brown.
The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Willliams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home with David Kersey officiating. Burial will follow at Freedom Cemetery in Summertown with a wagon train processional to the cemetery from the funeral home. Following the burial, Johnny’s life will be celebrated at the Bridle and Saddle Club in Summertown, Tennessee at 1:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan (JJ) Potts, Anthony (Thumper) Potts, James Thomas (Boo) Potts, Michael Armstrong, Christian Beckum, Charles Howell, Michael Glass, and Taylor Odom.
Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Brown, Austin Howell, Keith Ragsdale, Justin Hodge, Mickey Hodge, Bullet Howell, Ricky Brown, and Nicholas Hodge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Williams Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
