Mr. John J. Goempel, age 75, a former resident of Poplar Estates in Columbia, passed away on Thursday, February 4, at the Alvin C. York Veterans Medical Center in Murfreesboro.
A memorial service for Mr. Goempel will be conducted Wednesday, February 10 at 2:00 PM at the Life Care Center in Columbia with Rev. Ward Jones officiating.
Williams Funeral Home of Columbia is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born December 1, 1934 in Homestead, PA, he was the son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth McKelvey Goempel and the husband of Mary Doty Goempel. He was a veteran of the US Army, a CNA at a nursing home and attended the Christ Church of Columbia.
Survivors in addition to his wife, he is survived by a step-daughter: Irene Andy Calcagno of Columbia; a step-son: John Smith of Michigan.
