Mr. John H. Fly, age 65, resident of Theta Pike in Columbia, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services for Mr. Fly will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 in the chapel of the Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with Pastor Randy Miller and Rev. Larry Tarkington officiating. Entombment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home.
Born August 27, 1945 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Johnny H. and Willie Lucille Brady Fly. He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy. He owned his own trucking business and worked at Homecrafters and Southern Sash. He loved raising a big vegetable garden and harvesting the produce. He attended the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jewell Elaine Barton Fly of Columbia; a sister, Linda Sue Cooper of Columbia; two step-sons, David Darlene Cooper of Columbia and Jerry Wayne Cooper of Florida; two grandchildren, Amanda Cooper and Tyler Cooper both of Columbia; a nephew, Bobby Lee Pam King; two nieces, Tammy King and Terry Marple; and two special friends, Edith Love and Yvonne Isabell both of Columbia. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Fly Jones and Mildred Fly, a brother, James Fly and a niece Tracy Rodriguez.
Active pallbearers will be Calvin Scott, David Scott, Reddick Scott, Wayne Scott, Dale Inman and Larry White. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Farrelly, Kenneth Scott, Dr. Hagan, Mark Van Sideler, Dr. Douglas Kennedy, Dr. Moataz Toban, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Southern, John Church, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Starr, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Woods, Tommy Thompson and Ricky and Lori Bishop.
