John Ed Thornton

Mr. John E. "Ed" Thornton, age 77, a longtime resident White Street in Columbia, passed away on Sunday, June 29 at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Thornton will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 2 at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev Doug McCandless officiating. Burial will follow in the Arlington Cemetery.
The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
The Maury County native was the son of the late John and Rosie Nolan Thornton and the husband of Mary Whitehead Thornton. He was retired from Moorehead Tree Service and worked for Dusty Crumley. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Rose Thornton of Lewisburg, Misty Thornton and Flora May Thornton , both of Columbia; his sons: Robert Mary Thornton and Clifford Thornton, both of Columbia; grandchildren: Johnathan, Jason, Destiny, Abbagail, Christopher, William, Trey, Cierra, Elexus and Hayley; sisters: Della Whitehead and Sally Thornton; brother: George Thorne; brothers-in-law: Randy Michelle Whitehead and Robert Cindy Whitehead; sister-in-law: Shelia Whitehead; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Margaret Sharp, Jim Thornton, Dee Thornton, Annie Morton and Bob Thornton.
Pallbearers will be Randy Whitehead, Robert Whitehead, Todd Smith, Lonnie Martin, Floyd Morton and Ernest Morton. Honorary pallbearers will be the nurses and staff of NHC/Hillview.
