John Arthur Echols Jr. age 82 passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN.
John was born March 3, 1932 in Quitman, GA to the late John Arthur Echols Sr. and Ruth Wise Echols. John lived a full life. He married the love of his life Gloria Holland Echols December 1, 1954. He earned a BA from the University of Georgia. He served in the United State Air Force as a Fighter Pilot, flying an F84F. He worked at Sears for 30 years until retiring as a district controller. John was a woodworker, craftsman, and resident squirrel hunter. He made clocks, cedar chests, and gifts for family and friends. His children will miss their “Deddy.” John was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and neighbor.
John is survived by: his wife: Gloria Echols; daughter: Jan “Midge” (Merle) Becker of Franklin, TN; son: John “Jake” (Carrie) Echols of Germantown, TN; grandsons: John Echols, Spencer (Heather) Echols, and Tyler Echols; and granddaughter: Hayden Echols.
John is preceded in death by his parents John and Ruth Echols.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
