Mr. John Callas, age 81, a resident of S. Laurel Circle in Columbia, passed away on Sunday, September 23, at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Callas will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Tiford Tharp officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Tennessee National Guard.
The family will visit with friends on Monday from 5:00- 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Born in Tuscaloosa, AL, he was the son of the late Louis John and Annie Laurie Burgess Callas and the husband of Dera Dickey Callas. He was retired from the US Military; serving in the Navy during WWII and the Army in Korea, Vietnam and Cambodia; and retired from the United postal Service in Nashville.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Christina Norman Higham of Middleton, OH; two brothers, Louis Kris Callas, Jr. of Huntsville, AL and Billy Joanne Callas of Haymarket, VA; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas and Poncell Callas.
