John Anthony Barboza, age 73, loving father and husband, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
John was born February 23, 1946, in Plymouth, MA, the son of the late John Barboza and Grace Silva Barboza. John was the husband of Kathleen Pina Barboza. He was retired from General Motors Corporation, after 33 years of service. John was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving for one year in Vietnam.
John was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox and loved playing golf. Conscientious, kind and caring are words that would most accurately describe the kind of man he was. One of John’s greatest enjoyments was deep sea fishing with his son on Saturdays at Captain John’s in Plymouth, MA.
John was a faithful member of St. Catherine Catholic Church and greatly devoted to the Knights of Columbus. Within the Knights of Columbus, he held many positions, including Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, Color Guard Commander, District Marshal, District Commander, District Deputy, and won the Knight of the Year for the State of Tennessee. Also, he volunteered with the Knights regularly during the Maury County Fair. John was a man who was faithful to his Lord until the end.
A funeral mass for John will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Father Davis Chackaleckel officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 at the church. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
The Knights of Columbus will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Barboza of Columbia; two sons, Michael Barboza and Eric Barboza; granddaughter, Mikayla Benderman; sister, Elaine Barboza and brother, Richard (Diane) Barboza along with nieces and nephews.
