Mr. John A. Davis, age 62, a resident of Union Place in Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the VA Hospital in Nashville.

Funeral services for Mr. Davis will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 2, 2010 in the chapel of the Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Middle Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery in Pegram with military honors being provided by the United States Marine Corp.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Born May 15, 1948 in Columbia, the son of Mrs. Rosie Webb Davis of Columbia and the late Eldridge Davis. He was the husband of Lexine McGrone Davis of Columbia. John was a United States Marine having served two tours in Vietnam. He received two purple hearts during his time at war. When leaving the military his final rank was Corporal. Mr. Davis was employed for over 35 years at the Graymere Country Club having many different tasks at hand. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Marine Corps League.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters: Patrice Oakley and Sherri Troy Lockett, both of Columbia; a son: Antoine McGrone of Columbia; five grandchildren: Jaston Oakley, Jordan Mayberry, Austin McGrone, Jada Williams and Bradey Gill, all of Columbia; great-granddaughter: Ameera Oakley of Columbia; brothers: Marvin Davis, James B. Davis, Ray Davis and Barry Davis, all of Columbia and Kenny Davis of Hohenwald; sisters: Patricia Armstrong and Mildred James Caruthers, both of Columbia; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Lamar Davis, Eugene Davis, Cecil Davis and Randall Davis.
