Joe W. Hendley, age 80, a resident of Knob Creek Road in Columbia, passed away Monday, May 5 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mr. Hendley will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, May 7, in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Anthony Muston and Rev. Harvel Stockard officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Born August 24, 1928, the Maury County native was the son of the late Mahlon W. and Grace Morris Hendley and the husband of Joan Trice Hendley. He retired from the maintenance department at Monsanto and was a Big Orange Fan. Mr. Hendley was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Knob Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Patty Wayne Grantham of Athens, AL, Libby David Clanton and Terri Ann Hendley, both of Columbia; grandchildren: Patrick and Emma Grantham of Athens, AL, Matthew, Elizabeth and Hunter Clanton, all of Columbia; brother: Jack Allen of Athendale, TN; sister: Mary Elizabeth Potts of Columbia; Tennessee son: Mark Musel of Columbia; brother-in-law: Gerald Martin of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a sister: Faye Martin; a brother and sister-in-law: Morris B. and Irene Hendley and a brother-in-law: Clint Potts.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Grantham, Wayne Grantham, David Clanton, Matthew Clanton, Hunter Clanton, Mark Musel, Gary Hendley and Patrick Hendley. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy and Carolyn Benefield, John McEntyre, Herbert Church, Whithorne Hickman, Adam Thomas, Joel Baker, Dr. Ben Gardner, Dr. Motaz Toban, Monsanto retirees, Knob Creek Baptist Church and the Knob Creek friends and neighbors.
