Mr. Joe W. Gilliam, 81, a resident of South Cross Bridges Road in Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2006 at NHC/Hillview.

Funeral service for Mr. Gilliam will be conducted Monday, August 28, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, with Reverend Phillip Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Claude H. and Annie Mae Wilburn Gilliam and the husband of the Rachel Scott Gilliam. He was a Dairy Farmer, on the board of directors for the Maury County Farmers CO-OP, Duck River Electric, Farm Bureau, Middle Tennessee Bank and ASC Committee Man. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Tim Gilliam of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Melody Marlan Frizzel of Columbia; grandchildren, Brandon Vincent and Christa Vincent, both of Summertown, Brishan Frizzel, Sunday Grace Frizzel and Elijah Frizzel, all of Columbia; sister, Elizabeth Gilliam Wilde of Donelson; special nephew, George R. Sheila Gilliam of Mt. Pleasant; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Pallbearers will be Frank Martin, Brandon Vincent, Lee Scott, George R. Gilliam, Roger Gilliam, Todd Gilliam and Clay Gilliam. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Mash, Lucius Edwards, Hendley Edwards, David Edwards, Bobby Ingrum, Robbie Ingrum, Mark Ingrum, Pat Hickman, Murry Hines, Elliott Hampton, Brian Perry, Ray Floyd, Thelma Floyd, Carl Lanius, members of the Mt. Pleasant First United Methodist Church, past and present directors of Maury Farmers CO-OP, Duck River Electric, Maury County Farm Bureau and the ASC Committee.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant.
