Joe “J. D.” Brooks, Jr. of Hampshire, Tennessee, passed away into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
He was born on March 25, 1938, to Joe D. Brooks, Sr. and Mary Katherine Crowder Brooks. J. D. was a preacher for forty years. Joe’s life reflected his faith in the Lord, as he was peaceful, hard-working, caring and loving to all he met. J. D. was a true believer in his savior, Jesus Christ.
J. D. was preceded in death by his parents: Joe D. Sr. and Mary Katherine Brooks; son: Joe D. “Duck River Joe” Brooks, III; siblings: William Lee Brooks, Gerald “Pete” Brooks, and Ellen Anderson.
Cherishing his memory are his beloved wife: April Elizabeth Capps Brooks; children: Lorrie (Jeff) Slaughter of Murfreesboro and Jeff (Robin) Brooks of Columbia; grandchildren: Jonathan Eric Mann, Cameron Rhea Mann, Skylar Grace Brooks; great-grandchildren: Lola Magdalene Mann and Abner Rhea Mann; step-grandchild: Chase Steven Slaughter; step-great-grandchildren: Emma and Jenna Partridge; Scott Mann, whom he loved as a son; siblings: James Vernon Brooks and Geraldine “Jerri” Hiner.
A Celebration of life for Joe D. will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. The family will visit with friends on Sunday, April 28 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at Pisgah Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Ball and Larry Runions.
