Joe Carlton Gibson, age 84, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at his residence in Columbia.
Joe was born on June 30, 1930 to the late Emmitt Gibson and the late Nina Sands Gibson in Maury County, Tennessee. Joe married the late Freda Cook on July 3, 1956. He served his country in the United States Army and was wounded in Korea.
The family will visit with friends on Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral services for Joe will be held on Friday February 27, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Mike Roberts and Rev. Terry Peery officiating. American Legion Herbert Griffin Post 19 will be providing military honors. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Joe is survived by his sons Jeff (Sherri) Prestwich of Tullahoma, Joe Patrick Gibson of Mt. Juliet, and Charles (Kim) Rainey Gibson of Jackson; grandsons Peter (Anna) LeRay Prestwich and Nathan Patrick Gibson; great-grandson Oliver LeRay Prestwich; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Paul Gibson, Neal Gibson, Alan Gibson, Larry Petty, Ron Pope, and Tommy Dooley.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Cook, Joe Wade, Tony Ball, David Wilburn, and Joe Horne.
