Joan Bassham Crews Hermsdorfer of Sandy Hook passed away Sunday, May 15, at her home. Born and raised in Sandy Hook, she was the daughter of George and Reba Brewer Bassham. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and father of their children, William Crews; second husband, Art Hermsdorfer; daughter, Rhonda Brooks Cross; sister, Karena Pierce; and son-in-law Doug Jones.
She is survived by: Two children, Philip (Ann) Crews of Mt. Pleasant and Victoria Jones (Jimmy) Pratt of Columbia; Seven grandchildren: Brian (Courtney) Crews, Micah Crews, Ben (Jill) Jones, Brett (Janean) Jones, Jordan Brooks, Ashlie Brooks Walker, and Sterling Cross Biggs; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Ray (Martha) Bassham; two nieces, Tyra Shouse and Robin (Jeff) Weaver; two nephews Chris (Cindy) Frazier and Raylan Bassham; three step-sons, Art (Sally) Hermsdorfer, Jeff (Suzanne) Hermsdorfer, and Ken (Callie) Hermsdorfer; son-in-law Steve Cross; and dear friend Barbara Wallace.
Early in her life, Joan was a member of Sandy Hook Church of Christ and later became a member at Beech Hill and Central Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant. She was a graduate of Hay Long High School, Columbia Business College-Nursing School, and Columbia State Community College. For 32 years, she worked as a nurse for Dr. J.W. Wilkes. She was a co-owner of Crews Printing.
The funeral service for Mrs. Joan Hermsdorfer will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. A private graveside service will be held later in Polk Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday prior to the service.
