Jimmy B. Dugger

Jimmy B. Dugger, age 78, a resident of Adams Avenue in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, August 3, at his residence.

Funeral services for Jimmy will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Frank Webb and Rev. Elmer Crosby officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the oldest son of the late Robert and Alene Alexander Dugger. He was the husband of Irene Rawdon Dugger whom he married on August 6, 1954. Jimmy attended Enterprise School and Hay Long School. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant and the American Legion Post in Mt. Pleasant.

Jimmy began working at Arrow Mines at the age of 17. During the Korean Conflict he joined the United States Air Force and after basic training he was assigned to Lockbourn Air Force Base in Columbus, OH. From Lockbourn he was sent to Seoul, Korea and Pussan, South Korea. His unit training was in Fire and Crash Rescue and was attached to the United States Strategic Air Command.

After returning home from the war, Jimmy began to work for the Shea Chemical Company in the phosphate industry. He took his experience from the Air Force and became a volunteer fireman for the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department. After working for 37 years in the phosphate industry, Jimmy retired in 1991 as a kiln operator with Occidental Chemical Company.

After his retirement, Jimmy spent his free time fishing and volunteering. He mowed yards for the elderly, helped deliver Meals on Wheels, and worked with the beautification committee in Mt. Pleasant. He was dedicated to his special interest, the Mt. Pleasant Maury Museum of Local History where he was manager and tour guide for 17 years. Jimmy had a determination to teach people about Mt. Pleasant's mark on phosphate history.

He loved to take a milkshake with him to Arrow Lake when he went fishing. One of his favorite pastimes was going to ballgames to watch his grandchildren play ball.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughter: Sheri Dugger Hardison of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Tyler Alexander Hardison and DeAnna Grace Hardison, both of Mt. Pleasant; three brothers: Charlie Dugger of Hohenwald, Johnny Dugger and Rayburn Dugger, both of Mt. Pleasant; one sister: Barbara Ann Baker of Hohenwald; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Dugger and Wilma Dugger, both of Mt. Pleasant; Annie Lou Spears of Cornersville, Joyce Cardwell of Summertown and Mary Tanner of Tallahassee, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Lee Dugger and Richard Dugger and his son-in-law: Billy Ray "Bubba" Hardison.

Pallbearers will be Michael Dugger, Robbie Dugger, Adam Runions, David Hensley, Randy Henson, Erin Henson, Little John Dugger and Jay Dugger. Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Mae McWilliams, Joyce Copeland, Wilma Odom, Ruth Floyd, Mickey Crews, Jessica and Brad Flippo, Gary Flippo, Melissa Trimble, Don Spirlock, Hay Long High School Class of 1951, retired employees of Occidental Chemical Co., and volunteers of the Mt. Pleasant Maury Museum of Local History.
