Jimmie Gene Foster, Sr., was born April 25, 1933 in Maury County, the son of the late James Malloy Foster and Maggie Potts Foster. Gene was the husband of Joan Love Foster who preceded him in death in 2008.
Gene was a long time resident of Murfreesboro and most recently had moved to Summertown to be near his son. Gene was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, having enlisted at the age of 17. He was most proud of the fact that he had spent his 18th birthday in Korea. Gene and is wife Joan loved to dance and were regulars at the Bull Pen in Nashville, where they had a table reserved whenever they were there. He loved to play golf at the Mt. Pleasant Country Club and was an avid dirt bike rider in his younger years. Gene was the best friend that a stray dog ever had.
Survivors include his son, Gene Sandy Foster, Jr., of Summertown; three grandsons, Richard Timothy Foster, Jr., Jimmie Amanda Foster III and Stephen Amanda Foster ; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Elsie Foster Waldrop of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his wife and parents, Gene was preceded in death by a son, Richard Timothy Foster, Sr., one grandson, Brian Foster Schmitt, brothers, Clyde Foster, Alford Foster, Junior Foster and one sister, Thelma Foster.
Funeral services for Gene will be conducted Tuesday at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Randy McNeece officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery.
The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Terry Blasingim, Jerry Brewer, Tony Foster, Virgil Stewart, Jerry McNeece and Larry McNeece. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Foster, Jr., Jimmie Foster III, Stephen Foster, Larry Foster, Bill Love, Jr., and members of the Mt. Pleasant Country Club and the Wednesday night card players.
