Jerry Darwin Vandygriff, age 74, of Shelbyville, Tennessee, passed away on October 21, 2015.
Jerry was born on March 28, 1941 to James Vandygriff and Roberta Spencer Vandygriff in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. He loved people, loved life and was in general, a fun loving guy, who loved his family and God most of all. He played in a rock band in his younger years and music remained a passion of his all the days of his life. He loved animals, especially birds. His family recalls that Jerry was always a very hard working man who could do anything he set his mind to. He owned several businesses throughout his lifetime including a sign company and a video store. He was also a skilled carpenter and service manager, and was able to re-store or re-finish mobile homes.
Mr. Vandygriff is survived by his wife of forty-one years: Debbie Vandygriff of Shelbyville, Tennessee; children: Wendy (Scott) Vandygriff Altermatt and Kelley (Jacquelyn) Vandygriff; grandchildren: Brent Altermatt, Brittany (Ethan) Altermatt-Daily, Jordyn Olivia Vandygriff and Emma Victoria Vandygriff; and sisters: Shirley Gail (J.C.) Lancaster and Rita Benderman.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Jerry will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. Inurnment of his remains will be held at the Spencer Hill Cemetery immediately following the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.
