Jerry Daniel Dukes was born on May 21, 1936 in Daisy, Georgia to the late Mark and Thelma Coley Dukes. He was a veteran who served honorably in the United States Air Force. He worked for forty years for Wallboard and Supply and retired as a manager.
Jerry married Robbie Jewelle Kinzer on February 1, 1959 and they had 54 loving years together. They had two sons together. The family remembers that he was a great husband, father and grandfather. He was a Christian gentleman who was of the Church of Christ faith. His faith was very important to him and he served as a part-time preacher, deacon and song leader.
Jerry was an avid fisherman and very much enjoyed this hobby. He was also civic minded, being a Mason.
Jerry passed away suddenly Thursday, December 12, 2013 at his residence. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Micah (Donna) Dukes of Santa Fe, Tennessee and Mark (Marcia) Dukes of Spokane, Washington; grandchildren: Mark Dukes and Jamie Gibson; and brother Marcus Delaine (Ann) Dukes of Daisy, Georgia. He will be greatly missed by Jim Huey and his close neighbors.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Dukes will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Jeremy Butt will officiate the service. The family will visit with friends from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Office of Development 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
