Jerry Ballard, Sr.

November 2, 1941 — October 27, 2011

Funeral services for Jerry L. Ballard Sr., 69, Enid, Oklahoma, were Monday, October 31, 2011, at 2 p.m. in North Garland Church of Christ with Family Life Minister Gordan Jantz officiating. Burial with military rites by the U.S. Army will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Visitation were held 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Jerry was born November 2, 1941, in Dickson, Tennessee, to Robert Lee Ballard Jr. and Mary Lou Burch Ballard and died October 27, 2011, in Integris Bass Baptist Health Center, Enid.

Jerry grew up and attended school in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. He graduated from Haylong High School in 1959. He enlisted in the 82nd Airborne Army in 1959 and served in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as a radio operator. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1962. He moved to Columbia, Tennessee, and was district manager of McCrory, McClellan, Green's stores until 1975.

He married Lana Lee January 21, 1977; they celebrated 34 years of marriage this year. He worked as a manager for the Walmart Company. He moved to various places with Walmart, and, after retiring in 1991, he moved to Enid to be near family. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the Singing Ambassadors. He was also a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans, The Sojourners Missionary Group and an active member of North Garland Church of Christ. He traveled with other Church of Christ missionary groups to Mexico, The Philippines and South Texas helping children.

He is survived by his wife: Lana, of the home; sons: Jerry Lee Ballard Jr. and Robert Daniel Ballard, both of Enid; daughters: Linda and husband Terry Edmondson of Enid, Deborah Garoutte of Enid and Judy and husband Cliff Tucker of Bella Vista, AR; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry and sister-in-law Faye Ballard and sister Linda and brother-in-law John Dugger, both of Mount Pleasant, TN.
