Mrs. Jennie Ree Word Davis, 87, resident of Gardner Street in Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at her granddaughters residence surrounded by her family.
Born May 10, 1923 in Minor Hill Giles County, daughter of the late Grant and Lezzie Word and the wife of the late William Calvin "W.C./Red" Davis. She was a homemaker who loved to fish, sew, cook, raise tomatoes and do embroidery. Her passion was watching bull riding on television.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughters: Pauline Charles Stafford of Shelbyville, Shirley Timmy Hargrove of Columbia and Judy Ann Davis of Hampshire; her grandchildren: James Stafford, Billy Stafford, Paul Stafford, Cathy Hurt, Jonathan Hargrove, Brittney David Cook, Jessica Andrew Konz, Heather Davis and Jasmine Hargrove; great grandchildren: Chansten Davis, Genesis Bennett, Riley Bennett, Kyle Lee Davis, Russell Cole Davis, Casey Davis and numerous other great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son: Douglas Dorton; sisters: Sarah Murphy and Hattie Lee Word; brothers: Randall Word and Devon Word.
Funeral services for Mrs. Davis will be held 1:00 PM Thursday in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Ring Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Cook Sr., David Cook Jr., Kyle Lee Davis, Jonathan Hargrove, Akiva McKissack and Andrew Konz. Honorary pall bearers will be her other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
