Jeffrey "Bubba" Mark Cothran, age 63, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, January 10, 2025, in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. Born on December 29, 1961, as he often reminded those around him, to the late Willie Cothran, Sr., and Gladys Pearl Roberts Cothran.
Raised on the family farm, Bubba was not just the baby of 12, but someone truly special. His warmth, humor, and spirit brought immense love and joy to all who knew him. Bubba’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and finding happiness in life’s simplest pleasures.
Bubba was a lifelong fan of baseball, he cheered passionately for the Atlanta Braves, but his greatest pride came from being a part of his nephew Zac's baseball team. Bubba's presence at games was unforgettable; he helped in the dugout, managed equipment, and even called for the occasional meeting on the mound, always making himself an essential part of the team. At the end of every season, Bubba delighted in receiving a trophy alongside the players, his heart full of pride and belonging.
Bubba had a wide range of interests that brought joy to himself and those around him. He loved country music, spent countless hours watching westerns like Gunsmoke, and enjoyed coloring—though he didn’t always like sharing his crayons. He was also known for his mischievous streak, especially when it came to hiding the remote control to keep his favorite shows on the TV.
Perhaps nothing delighted Bubba more than his birthday. He never missed an opportunity to let everyone know when it was, December 29th, and his 63rd and final birthday was an especially joyous occasion. Thanks to his sister Linda's heartfelt social media post, Bubba received literally thousands of birthdays wishes and cards from around the world, a moment that made him feel deeply cherished.
Bubba also gave as much love as he received, especially to his beloved sister Mott, who cared for him for 20 years. Bubba’s final birthday gift to her—a visit on her special day—was a poignant reminder of his generous and thoughtful spirit.
Bubba’s light and love will be dearly missed, but his joyful presence and the laughter he brought will never be forgotten. He leaves behind a family who adored him and countless others whose lives he brightened.
A special thank you from his family to his caretakers over the past 2 ½ years at Mount Pleasant Health and Rehab as well as Gentiva Hospice and Health Angels who provided in-home care prior to the nursing home care.
A graveside service for Bubba will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Polk Memorial Gardens. In honor of his memory, the family encourages acts of kindness, laughter, and love, just as Bubba would have wanted.
Bubba is survived by his sisters Linda Rhodes of New Johnsonville, TN, Velda Filson of Columbia, TN, and Helen Bell of Florence, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Willie Cothran Jr., Lewis Cothran Sr., Robert Cothran, Neal Cothran, Johnny Walker Cothran; and sisters, Mildred Kelley, Joyce Ann Craig, Mary Cothran, Martha “Mott” Cothran Sharp and Betty Dyer.
His nephews will serve as pallbearers.
