J. B. "Pea Knuckle" Caperton

Mr. J.B. "Pea Knuckle" Caperton, 87, a longtime resident of Lynn Drive in Columbia, passed away Thursday, August 4 at the Southern Care Assisted Living in Franklin, TN.
Born August 15, 1923 in Iron City, TN, son of the late Edgar and Flora Gambel Caperton and the husband of Joann Ringer Caperton and the late Dorothy Jean Caperton. He was a farmer in his early years, moving to Columbia in 1953 where he worked as a furnace supervisor for Hooker/Occidental Chemical and retired after 33 years. He was a US Army veteran of WWII injured in the battle of Saint-Lo France on July 28, 1944 for which he received the Purple Heart, a member of the American Legion Post 19, a member of the VFW and a member of the Dimple of the Universe Campers Club/Hardison Mills Campers Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Freida Ann Joe Dobbs of Murfreesboro, Regena Ray Flowers of Hohenwald, Edward "Bernie" Caperton of Hampshire and Amy Mike Bridges of Columbia; step-children: Danny Lelani Kyle and JoLynn DiCillo, both of Columbia, Terry Parthina Kyle and Keith Kyle, both of Savannah; 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson: James Corey Sanders; brothers: Malcolm Caperton and Grady Caperton; sister: Dorothy Hartsfield.
Funeral services for Mr. Caperton will be held 1:30 PM Monday, August 8 in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Kimbrough and James Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.
The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM and Monday from 11:30 AM to service time at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be John Andrews, Billy Patrick, Stanley Smith, Robert Butler, Jack Kenney, Barry Kenney, grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be mmbers of the Hardison Mills Campers Club and former employees of Hooker/Occidental Chemical Company.
