Mrs. Janice "Shorty" Dickens Readey, 65, resident of Cliff White Road in Columbia, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Born December 29, 1945 in Colbert County, AL, daughter of the late Garfield and Lula Ledlow Dickens and the wife of the late H. Frank Readey. She worked for Publix Shirt Factory for 18 years and after that she worked for Apcom for 10 years. Mrs. Readey's passion in life was spending time with her grandbabies and great grandbabies. She was baptized at an early age by Porters Chapel Church of Christ.
Mrs. Readey is survived by her daughters: Michelle Terry Priest of Cookeville and Windi Guzman of Columbia; sisters: Lucille Osborne of Sheffield, AL, Alice Terry of Muscle Shoals, AL and Shelby Chatman of Mt. Pleasant; brothers: Belton Doris Dickens of Columbia and Roy Dickens of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Cole and Dallas Wilkinson, both of Cookeville, Dani, Austin and Shyenne Bridges, all of Columbia, Shawna Brad Huddleston of Cookeville, Specialist Christopher Priest of Ft. Lewis, WA, Specialist Matthew Priest of Cookeville; great grandchildren: Wheston Davis and Kyleigh Dailey, both of Columbia, Jaylen Priest of Jackson and Brant Huddleston of Cookeville. She was preceded in death by sisters: Linda Eastep and Mildred Dickens; brother: Jimmy Dickens; son-in-law: Joe Guzman.
Funeral services for Mrs. Readey will be held 10:00 AM Friday, May 13, 2011 in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rick Points and Randy Kersey officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Belton, Kerry, Stan and Scott Dickens, David, Cole and Dallas Wilkinson, Austin Bridges, Specialist Christopher Priest and Specialist Matthew Priest. Honorary pallbearers will be Michelle King, Robert Young, Dr. Freels, Dr. Jefferson, the nurses of the 2nd floor step-down unit, ICU, 3rd floor nurses of Maury Regional, Maury Regional EMS and Caris Hospice.
The family ask in lieu of flowers, that you bring an unwrapped toy for the Angel Tree program and Toys for Tots program to the funeral home.
