James Bernard Farris

August 25, 1914 — June 14, 2005

Mr. James Bernard ?Jim? Farris, 90, a resident of Westover Drive in Columbia, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at Life Care Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Farris will be conducted Thursday, June 16, 2005 at 11:00 am at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Wendell Robinson and Ellis Coates officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 9:00 pm and Thursday from 9:30 am until service time at the funeral home.

Born in Giles County, he was the son of Edward Herschel and Elizabeth Ursula Morrow Farris and husband of Mary Dorothy Murphy Farris, to whom he was married for 63 years. A 1933 graduate of Campbellsville High School, he was a farmer, business owner, salesman and a minister. He was a longtime member of Graymere Church of Christ and served as a deacon and an elder. He was a highly respected member of the community and had a positive influence on many people. He will be highly missed by all who knew him and will remain with great love in our hearts. The family wishes to thank all those who assisted him during his illness.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, James Edward Sara Farris of Brentwood, TN, Thomas Murphy Vanessa Farris of Santa Fe, TN and David Lee Kim Farris of Decatur, AL; six grandchildren, Patrick Farris and Jill Farris, both of Orlando, FL, James Farris and Rachel Farris, both of Brentwood, TN, Alyssa Farris and Alex Farris, both of Decatur, AL. He was preceded in death by a sister, Isa Farris and three brothers, John Farris, Kermit Farris and Lloyd Farris.

Pallbearers will be George Brazelton, Harold Hardison, Bobby Smithson, James Farris, Dr. Tom Duncan and Patrick Farris. Honorary pallbearers will be current and former elders of Graymere Church of Christ and Glenn Kinnard.
