James Woodroe Adkins

James Woodroe Adkins was born February 17, 1957 in Erin, TN, the son of the Layton James Adkins of Nashville and Lena Bailey Adkins Puckett of Vanleer, TN. James was the husband of Eva Barber Adkins of Mt. Pleasant. He had worked in the construction industry as a roofer and had retired from the Army National Guard following 24 years of service.

In addition to his wife and mother and father, James is survived by one daughter, Vallie Paul Vanoven of Mt. Pleasant; one grandson, Thomas Vanoven of Mt. Pleasant; his step-mother, Marie Adkins of Nashville; one brother, William Fay Adkins of Hohenwald, one sister, Nancy Ricky Pinkerton of Nashville, step-brother, William Puckett of Vanleer, step-sister, Debbie Steve Field of Dickson, half-sister, Betsy Terry Amos of Vanleer and half-brother, Jackie Brenda Puckett of Vanleer, and his sister-in-law, Betty Barber of Mt. Pleasant.

James passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at his residence.

Funeral services for James will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. Eddie Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.

The family will visit with friends on Friday from 12:00 Noon until time of service at the funeral home.
