James "Jim" Winchester

July 14, 1936 — March 22, 2016

James H. “Jim” Winchester was born July 14, 1936 to James W. and Musie Robinson Winchester. He passed away on March 22 at V.A. Hospital in Nashville.

He served in the Navy from 1955 – 1958. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing. Jim was a musician and singer. He performed with many of the Grand Ole Opry stars in his earlier years. Later in life he spent countless hours performing with his special friends Chuck Atkins, Bob Hardison and Charlie Brown. Jim was known for his homemade sausage.
To his family and friends he would always remark “This is the best batch I’ve ever made”. Before his health declined, he spent a lot of time in the kitchen preparing some good southern meals.

Jim was of the Church of Christ faith and was raised up in the church at Old Lasea in the Pottsville community. Within the last few years he had rededicated himself to Christ at Berea Church of Christ.

Survivors include his partner in life, Ann Owens of Columbia; children, Lisa Hamlin of Lewisburg, Randall (Laurie) Winchester of Mt. Pleasant, Troy Winchester of Columbia, Roger Winchester of Lewisburg and Daniel Winchester of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Tara Rowe, Chelsea Hamlin, Chase Hamlin, Melody (Matthew) Macer, James Winchester, and Amanda Winchester; great-grandchildren, Rayne Rowe, Skylar Rowe and Leo Griffith.

Jim’s family will remember his life with a musical celebration of his life at a later date.
