James Thomas Bell

June 3, 1926 — October 12, 2008

James Thomas Bell, age 82, retired from Maury Farmers Co-op, co-owner of Bell Brothers Trucking and Bell Brothers Carpet Cleaning and longtime resident of Hampshire Pike passed away Sunday at NHC Columbia.

Funeral services for Mr. Bell will be conducted Tuesday October 14, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Joe Bell and Rev. Donna Higginbotham officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

The Maury Co. native was the son of the late Nora Primm Chamberlain and Will Lewis Bell. In 1949 he married Lena Grace Wise, who preceded him in death September 18, 1990. He was a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church where he was Sunday school superintendent. Mr. Bell loved UT Football, baseball, and was a sponsor of Bell Brothers Trucking Softball Team. He was a former member of the Maury Co. Horseman's Association and loved Tennessee Walking Horses.

He is survived by one son: Stanley Thomas Carrie Drane Bell and one grandson Stanton Thomas Bell, all of Columbia; five sisters: Mrs. Virginia Tallent , Mrs. Billie Kincaid and Barbara Frank Allen Thomas all of Columbia, Mrs. Lounora Jimmy Grimmett of the Sawdust Community, Mrs. Jane B. Jones of Mt. Pleasant; one brother Joe Lynn Bell of Columbia and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister Mary Lee Bill Harlan and one brother L.C. Helen Bell.

Pallbearers will be Allen Kincaid, Michael Kincaid, Jeffery Kincaid, Robert Tallent, Kent Bell, Byron Jones, Garrick Jones, Steven Thomas, Ken Harlan, Tim Bell, Dwight Ledford and David Ledford.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wimpy Jones, Bobby Tuberville, Wayne and Linda Garner, Mae Duncan, Enoch George, R.D. and Sammie Ledford, Todd Greer, Louis Bell, Lorie Bell, Kenneth Broyles, Keith Baker, past and present employees of Maury Farmers Co-op, and men of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o R.D. Ledford, 906 Camellia Dr. Columbia, TN 38401.
