James Pate Patterson

April 14, 1945 — December 30, 2024

Columbia

James "Pate" Patterson, a beloved Maury County native, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, at the age of 79, at Maury Regional Medical Center. Born on April 14, 1945, in Columbia, Tennessee, to the late Travis Patterson and Daisy Holloway Patterson, Pate’s life was a rich tapestry woven with dedication, music, and the love of the land.

From his earliest days, Pate found joy in the rolling hills of his family’s farm, where he learned the values of hard work and a connection to nature. Helping to raise cattle instilled in him a quiet strength and unwavering determination that defined his life. At just 17 years old, Pate answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army. His service was marked by distinction, earning medals and achievements that reflected his commitment and valor.

Though Pate was a reserved and private man by nature, he truly came alive through music. A gifted musician and songwriter, Pate’s passion for music was boundless. He collaborated with numerous artists, played with various bands, and lit up countless stages with his talent and love for entertaining others.

In his younger years he enjoyed the adrenaline of motorcycle racing and trail riding with his brothers and friends. As time went on, Pate found fulfillment in life’s simpler pleasures. He embraced sunny days on the water, relishing the thrill of boating and water skiing. The serenity of early mornings spent deer hunting brought him peace, as did the quiet moments savoring the beauty of his farmland.

Pate’s legacy is carried on by his children, Terri (Brad) Coppes and Ricky (Angie) Patterson; his brothers, David and Johnny Patterson; his companion, Gladys Tucker; and a loving extended family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is reunited in heaven with his parents and his brother, Sarge Patterson.

The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with a Celebration of Life commencing at 4:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. Pastor David Buffalo will be officiating the service.
