James A. Mousseau Jr., a man known for his unwavering tenacity, loyalty, and hard-earned respect, passed away on March 19, 2025, at Maury Regional Medical Center at the age of 65.
Born on June 5, 1959, in Alpena, Michigan, to James Mousseau Sr. and Donna Jean Smith, James lived a life full of grit and purpose. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, dedicated himself as a sheriff’s deputy in Louisiana, and later spent decades in the demanding field of construction work, always committed to excellence and hard-earned results. Through it all, he earned a reputation as a no-nonsense man who always stood up for what was right and protected those he cared about.
James was tougher than nails; a man who didn’t back down from a challenge. He was the protector of his family and a respected bedrock in the Rosehill community. When James was around, you knew you were safe, and you knew he’d have your back when you needed it most.
He had a love for the outdoors and lived life on his own terms. James was a Harley motorcycle rider, a hellraiser, a backwoods beer drinker, and a man who enjoyed good company. He spent countless hours camping, fishing, playing horseshoes, and relaxing by the creek. His dogs and the wild were his escape, and he cherished every moment spent with his kids and grandkids.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Jean Smith, and his sister, Lila Heise. He is survived by his beloved partner, Kelli Stanford; his brother, Christopher Mousseau; his sisters, Karen Glover and Cheryl Gebes; his sons, Levi Mousseau, Anthony Mousseau, and Jimm Mousseau; his daughters, Stephanie Mousseau, Bobbie Jo Mousseau, and Sandra Mousseau; and many grandchildren who will honor his memory.
Legends never die. James A. Mousseau Jr. will be missed, but never forgotten. Rest easy James—you earned it.
The care of Mr. James A Mousseau Jr. and his family has been entrusted to Williams Funeral Home. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
