James Dudley McCormick, age 70, longtime Mt. Pleasant resident and teacher, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Dudley was born January 16, 1947, in Maury County, the son of the late James B. McCormick and Mable Liles McCormick. He served his country in the United States Army and was of the Baptist faith. Dudley taught Algebra for 32 years in Mt. Pleasant, and also coached girls’ basketball and volleyball. He touched a countless number of lives throughout his teaching and coaching career.
Survivors include two sisters, Faye (Allen) McCanless and Betsy (Richard) Davis, both of Mt. Pleasant and one brother, Thomas R. “Sonny” (Gail) McCormick of Maryland.
Funeral services for Dudley will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Dewayne Crumley officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 12:00 Noon until service time at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Roy Clark, Gary Flippo, Richard Davis, Sammy McCanless, Steven McCanless, Bronson Sharp and Tommy McCormick. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Clark, Gayla Clark, Leigh Ann Hill, Chris Hill, David Greenfield, Ronnie Spears, Lonnie Daniels, Douglas Marshall, Debbie Jo Marshall, Kay Spears, Regina Flippo, Doug Baker, Jeanie Baker, Sandy Smith, Gordon McWilliams, Kyle Foster, Cameron McCanless, Ryan McCanless, Tyler Duberry, Kenny Benderman, Theresa Benderman, Kay Lindsey, Betilynn Clark, Coach W.C. Johnson,Brandon Mabry, Brittney Floyd, Casey Duberry, Gracie Duberry, Karsyn McCanless, Brady McCanless, Brenda McCanless, and Elizabeth McCanless.
