James Kaye Dawson

November 27, 1915 — December 21, 2004

Mr. James Kaye Dawson, 89, a resident of Hoover Mason Lane in Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, December 21, 2004 in the Republic of Haiti.

A memorial service for Mr. Dawson will be conducted Saturday, January 8, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Reverend Phillip Wright officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. Inurnment will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Arthur Kaye and Ruby Dyer Dawson and husband of the late Martha Anderson Dawson. Mr. Dawson was a retired electrical engineer. He was a retired Colonel from the US Army Reserve after 30 years service and 4 years active duty during World War II. He was a graduate of Oklahoma University with a Masters Degree, instructor at Colorado School of Mines, Oregon State University, and the John C. Campbell Folk Art School in North Carolina. He had 10 years service with Redstone Arsenal and NASA and worked on the Apollo program in Huntsville, Alabama. He also served 2 years with a missionary team in Ethiopia and as a summer volunteer guide for the National Park Service. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Shriners, Red Cross Volunteer and 50 plus years with the Boy Scouts.

He is survived by a two sons, Robert Kaye Alison Dawson of Peachtree City, GA and Benjamin Johnston Stephanie Dawson of Mt. Pleasant, TN; a daughter, Linda Dawson Gonzales of Arlington, VA; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
