James “JJ” Lee Jones, 85, of Mount Pleasant went to be with his Lord on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Mount Pleasant Health and Rehab. James was born in Ardmore, AL to the late Odie Jones and Marie Tillery Jones on September 19, 1931. He was the husband of 31 years to Ann Thomason Smith Jones.
James worked 13 years for Evan’s Glass Co. in 1986. He and his friend opened J & W Glass in Columbia for 10 years. He retired in 1996. James and his wife, Ann, were involved in building New Song Baptist Church and wanted to be there from the beginning. They did the glass in the church and anything else that needed to be done. James and Ann were members from the very first time that the church met in the Old Senior Citizens building. He was a good Christian man who loved his Lord, his church family, and his family.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant with Rev. Peter Sierson officiating. Burial will follow at Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore, AL at 2:00 PM. The family will visit with friends and family on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be the members of New Song Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of New Song Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, JJ is survived by his son, Kenneth (Pat) Jones of Columbia; Grandchildren, Yolanda Jones, Kenney Jones, and Greg Jones all of Columbia; Stepsons, David (Dena) Smith of Mount Pleasant and Tim (Kim) Smith of Mount Pleasant; Step Grandchildren, Alyshia (Chad) Busby, David Carl (Sherry) Smith, Jennifer (Robby) Hannah, and Jamie Smith; Great Grandchildren, Mikayla Busby, A.J. Busby, Macy Smith, and Jeremiah Roan; Sisters, Martha Lovett, Gladys Sisco, and Sherry (Carl) Owens. In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his step son, Michael Smith and sisters, Darrell Stamps and Robbie Jean Jones.
