James "Jack" Black, age 78, a resident of Big Swan Road in Hampshire, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mr. Black will be conducted Friday at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. Kenneth Jenkins and Bro. Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 P.M. at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Ardmore, AL.
The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
The Limestone Co., AL, native was born March 8, 1931, the son of the late Will Black and Myra Wales Black. He was the husband of Carol Boswell Black of Hampshire. Jack was a retired roofer and a member of the Pentecostals of Columbia.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children: Tammy George Hidalgo of Columbia, Jackie Jere C. Plant of Mt. Pleasant, Phillip Black and Jason Black, both of Hampshire; grandchildren: Crystal Black, Bradley Butler, Josh L. Plant, Jere W. Plant, Tara R. Plant, Megan Black, Tabatha Black and Max Black; seven great-grandchildren; one sister: Leslie Stockard of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Brenda Faye Butler, three brothers: John, Kenneth and Eugene Black and two sisters: Ruby Tennyson and Flora Dotson.
Pallbearers will be Larry Wales, Douglas Wales, Lewis Wales, Jere Cecil Plant, Jere W. Plant and Adam Morton. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Plant, Rev. Telford Tharp, Rev. Jason Kizer and members of the Pentecostals of Columbia.
