Dr. James, or to everyone who knew him, Jamie, was born on February 14, 1959 in Oak Hill, Nashville to James L. Hutton Jr. and Margorie Hutton; they welcomed him in alongside his older sister, Christina(Wright). He graduated from John Overton High School before graduating with his Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Tennessee at Martin. It was during his sophomore year here that he met his future bride and life partner, Pamela (Dalrymple). They were 19 and 18 years old respectively. They recently celebrated 41 years of marriage where they reflected on a life full of love, adventure, and blessings beyond their wildest imaginations. He is survived by his wife, Pam, his sons, Sam and Wesley, his daughter-in-law, Emalie, and his grandchildren, Timothy James (TJ) and Eli, as well as many nephews and nieces.

Jamie and Pam moved to Memphis where they were married, and he completed his doctorate in dental surgery from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center; he completed his pediatric residency at the University of Kentucky before moving back to middle TN permanently in 1987. He started his pediatric dental career in several locations around the greater Nashville area before joining an established practice that would become his biggest passion: Children’s Dental Columbia. Once asked by his sons why he didn’t go on more mission trips to foreign countries, he responded that God had need for ministering in his own back yard as much as abroad; this truth he embodied was seen daily through his commitment and dedication to his craft and relationships built throughout his dental career. He worked relentlessly to improve the lives and oral health of every child he was blessed to see, and often went out of his way to show God’s heart through acts of serviceboth in and out of his office.

In his over 30 years of clinical practice, he cared for several continuous generations of families, evidence of the care and trust that the community placed in him through his unreserved love and high standards.

Jamie was passionate about his faith, family, and friends; he enjoyed ministering through children’s Sunday School, coaching swimming, Boy Scouts andserving in leadership positions within dental, church, educational and political organizations. He dedicated his life to giving back, whether that be through clinical expertise, time, or in service of the Kingdom. In everything he did, he strove to be an exemplary follower of Christ through intentional choices and speech.

A Godly warrior of immense faith and conviction, he will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
