James Howard Grimes

April 7, 1947 — July 8, 2002

Mr. James Howard ?Chigger? Grimes, 55, resident of Creighton Place in Tullahoma, former longtime resident of the Mt. Joy Community, died Monday, July 08, 2002, in the Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma.

Funeral services for Mr. Grimes will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Williams Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home with Rev. Homer Dee Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 ? 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He was a native of Maury County, TN, the son of Mrs. Juanita Powell Grimes Newkirk of Tullahoma and the late Homer Grimes. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and UT football. He was active on Special Olympics in Nashville competing throughout the U. S. He was a former coach for softball and football teams of Mt. Pleasant area baseball and softball. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant.

Survivors in addition to his mother include three sisters, Nancy Paul Lopez of Hempstead, NY, Margo Emsley Howe of Camden, TN and Joyce Grimes of Murfreesboro; one brother, Harold Grimes of Columbia; step-father, Al Newkirk of Tullahoma; three step-brothers, David Newkirk of Kentucky, Bob Barbara Newkirk of Tullahoma and Mike Newkirk of Atlanta, GA; one step-sister, Juanita Mike Warren of Tullahoma. One niece, one nephew, four great-nieces and one great-nephew, all of Hempstead, NY.

Pallbearers will be Willie Boyd, Donnie Grimes, Brandon Edwards, Courtney Edwards, Eddie Bassham and Billy Grimes. Honorary pallbearers will be third floor nurses at Maury Regional Hospital, staff of Heritage Manor, staff of Hidden Acres Assisted Living and second floor Nurses at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma.
