Mr. James Edward King, age 83, resident of Old Zion Road in Columbia, passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. King will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in the chapel of the Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with Jeremy Butt officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin Post #19.
The King family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home.
Born May 7, 1927 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Cornana Lindsey King. He was the husband of Verna Henderson King of Columbia. James and Verna married on February 14, 1948. James served in the National Guard and was also an Army Veteran. He was retired as a cattleman for Hall & Knox Mining Company. James loved farming, especially working with cattle.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jimmy King of Mt. Pleasant and Kenny Kim King of Hohenwald; grandchildren, Tiffany King, Ashley King, Wayne Beth King, Tyson King and Jeffrey King; step-grandson, Mason Dabbs; three great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons; four sisters, Ina Ruth King of Nashville, Sue Cathey of Nashville, Charlene Parson of Franklin and Linda Cockran of Columbia.
Mr. King was preceded in death by a sister Josephine King.
Active pallbearers will be Allen Gibson, Billy Gibson, Joe Gibson, Barry Anderson, David Calvert and Jeff Knox. Tillman Knox will serve as honorary pallbearer.
The King family would especially like to thank the entire Maury Regional EMS staff for their professionalism and patience in the care of James. They would also like to thank Dr. Kevin Chunn and the entire Emergency Room Staff at Maury Regional Medical Center on call the night of Saturday, November 20th for their kindness, professionalism and understanding during a very difficult situation. They would also like to give a special thank you to Dr. Gaylon Harris.
