James Edward Barnes

July 13, 1923 — April 10, 2008

Mr. James Edward Barnes, age 84, a resident of Dalton Street in Columbia, passed away Thursday, April 10, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Barnes will be conducted Saturday April 12, at 11:30 A.M. at the Williams Funeral Home with Hank Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19.

The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born in Williamson County, TN, he was the son of the late Clarence and Lizzie Fox Barnes. He was the husband of Thelma Rummage Barnes of Columbia, to whom he was married for 61 years. He retired from the Shipping Department at Union Carbide. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Barnes was a retired Elder of the Mt. Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Linda Rabon Dodson and Debra Wiseman both of Columbia; two brothers,: Charles Lollie Barnes of Columbia and Bobby Lorene Barnes of Somerville, AL; three sisters: Margaret Brady of Santa Fe, Hazel Herman Adair and Dot Vance Potts both of Hohenwald; three sister-in-laws: Minnie Barnes Edith Rummage and Clara Johnnie Harvey; one brother-in-law; Elmer Charlotte Rummage; grandchildren: Gena Robert Caldiraro, Missy David Phillips, James Jennifer Wiseman, Jamie Corey Williams, Greg Dodson and Cheryl Tim Thurman; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell Barnes, a son-in-law, Buddy Wiseman and a brother, Eugene Barnes.

Pallbearers will be James Wiseman, Corey Williams, David Phillips, Robert Caldiraro, Charles Vaughn, Ray Rummage, Bill Barnes and David Priest.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mt. Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church and retirees of Union Carbide.

The family would like to give special thanks to Don and Alma Sisk, Dr. Stephen Simmons, employees of Caris Hospice and the staff of Maury Regional Skilled Nursing Unit.
