James Delano Clifton

James Delano Clifton, born September 1, 1934 in the Sharps Corner Community of Maury County, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Private graveside services will be held at Jones Cemetery on Wednesday, December 15 at 3:00 P.M. with Retired Navy Chaplain Bob Adair officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Navy. There will be no visitation.

Williams Funeral Home in Columbia is assisting the family with arrangements.

He was a native of Maury County, the son of the late James M. Clifton and Rosie Lee Rummage Clifton Javer and step-son of Leonard J. Javer of Toledo, OH. James was raised by his maternal grandparents, Anderson J. and Fanny Chumbley Rummage of the Sharps Corner Community and his mother and step-father in Toledo, OH. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Mildred Jones Clifton.

He attended the following schools in Maury County: Pottsville, Beechland and Central High School. James was retired with 22 years of service in the United States Navy as a senior Gunners Mate Technician E8 and from Fafnir Bearing Company in Pulaski as an industrial electrician with 18 years.

James was a member of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19, past Chef De Gare of Voiture, Local 1394 of 40 & 8, national past Chef De Gare Club, Fleet Reserve Association Branch 44, Fruit Of The Vine, associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police, James K. Polk Lodge #26 and the Tennessee Sheriff's Association.

Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law: Geraldine and Richard Slicker of Bradenton, FL; one nephew and godson: G. William Karen Sharpe McCoy of Brentwood; five great-nieces: Gillian and Fallon McCoy of Brentwood, Delana J. Kennedy of Antioch, TN, Cynthia L. Bill Brooks of Mt. Pleasant and Solena Senkle of Sioux Falls, SD and one great-nephew: Cameron McCoy of Brentwood.
