James Daniel Cross, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Signature Health Care in Columbia, Tennessee.
Mr. Cross was born on February 10, 1920 in Giles County, Tennessee to the late Marshall E. Cross and Rosa Lee Woodard Cross. He married Ann Covetz in 1956 and they raised his two sons together. Ann passed away in 1996 after 40 years of marriage. After her death, he married Eileen Frost Combs who also preceded him in death in 2007.
He was a General Motors retiree and had worked in the Cadillac Division. He was well known in the community and respected as a great Christian gentleman, who lived out his faith daily. He was a long-time member of First Assembly of God Church in Columbia, and before his passing was the oldest male member of the congregation. His reputation for being a constant prayer warrior will be missed.
Mr. Cross is survived by his son: Larry (Nancy) Cross; grandchildren: Davey (Cathy)Cross, Jimmy (Dionne) Cross, Mary Ferrell and Lettie White; stepsons: Cal (Alice) Combs and Jerry (Eileen) Combs; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to Ann Cross, his wife and the mother of his children, and his wife Eileen, he is preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law: David and Shirlie Baxter Cross; his sisters: Verly Cross Salsberry and Nellie Cross Speck and brother: Shirley E. Cross.
Funeral services for Mr. Cross will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 10:00a.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Columbia with Rev. Charles Blythe, Rev. Jeremy Godwin, Father Davis Chackaleckel and Bro. Jim Burrow officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
Allen Hayes, Elmo Busby, Charles Gandy, Cal Combs, Monty Gilliam, Edward Bibb, Rodger Redman, Eddie Turner, Tom Jennings and Bob Hinson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Primetimers and One Plus One Singles both Ministries of First Assembly of God Church.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Foreign Missions, First Assembly of God Church, 907 Nashville Highway, Columbia, Tennessee.
